Today, we mourn the passing of Jack Latvala, the founder of Direct Mail Systems. Jack was a successful businessman, a nationally recognized political operative, a prominent and effective elected official, and a towering figure in Florida politics and public service.
Jack founded Direct Mail Systems in the early 1980s with a clear vision: to provide strategic, effective communications and support to candidates who believed in principled leadership and conservative values. Under his guidance, the firm quickly became a trusted partner to Republican campaigns across Florida and the nation, helping elect leaders who would shape the state for decades.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jack answered the call to serve directly. In 1994, he was elected to the Florida Senate, where he distinguished himself as a strong, effective leader. During his tenure, he earned a reputation for his political skill, thoughtful understanding of policy, and unwavering commitment to his constituents. His leadership left a lasting imprint on the institution and the state.
“Jack Latvala was more than a founder—he was a mentor, a visionary, and a force in Florida politics,” said Michael Milligan, President and CEO of Direct Mail Systems. “His contributions to Direct Mail Systems and to the Republican Party helped define a generation of leadership. I
am personally grateful for his guidance and example, and our entire team honors his legacy by continuing the work he began.”
Jack’s influence extended far beyond campaigns and public office. He was known for his dedication to mentoring others, his strategic mind, and his passion for the political process. His legacy lives on in the many leaders he helped elect and the countless professionals he inspired.
As part of Jack’s legacy, his son, Chris Latvala, a Pinellas County Commissioner, is part of the Direct Mail Systems team, assisting clients with their political mail and marketing needs.
Direct Mail Systems extends its deepest condolences to Jack’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. His impact on Florida will not be forgotten.
